‘The Dynamic Landscape’ Book Launch
On Thursday 30 October, The Green Estate CIC and Pictorial Meadows were delighted to welcome Professor Nigel Dunnett, Professor James Hitchmough and Dr Helen Hoyle for the launch of the new edition of The Dynamic Landscape.

The evening talk, which was hosted by our Horticulture Innovation Manager Owen Hayman, explored how The Green Estate/Pictorial Meadows’ work has been intertwined with the naturalistic design movement led by Nigel and James, and both authors led us through their journeys and highlights.

Nigel explained that Sheffield is currently the horticultural hotspot for the UK. He talked about how the unique partnership between the University of Sheffield, Sheffield City Council and The Green Estate/Pictorial Meadows has resulted in the development of internationally renowned landscape projects such as Grey to Green.

James explained that when it comes to designing and managing landscapes, ‘less is less’ rather than ‘less is more’. He helped us understand that initiatives such as Grey to Green do require less time in terms of maintenance, but need higher skills and expertise.

Helen shared her deep research into the relationship between health, communities and landscape, and talked about the benefits and challenges around volunteering.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and to all our staff who helped organise the event!
