Learnings from the Open Manor Project

This report tells the story of the Open Manor Project – a participatory co-design initiative commissioned by The Green Estate and funded by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and Yorkshire Policy Innovation Partnership.

Between October 2025 and March 2026, a Community Co-design Team of twelve residents from the Manor Castle ward in Sheffield worked alongside facilitators, researchers and local partners to explore what ‘place-based urban resilience’ means in practice and to shape a Greenprint for a more connected, nature-rich and resilient local future.

The report documents the full arc of the project: from its origins in The Green Estate’s ambition to become a national place-based urban resilience demonstrator, through the community stories, experiments and relationships that emerged along the way, to the practical commitments and shared vision captured in the Open Manor Greenprint.
