Accessibility

Our aim is to make your visit as welcoming, accessible and enjoyable as possible. We have a wide ranging landscape with both heritage and modern buildings across site. This does create some some challenges however we are continually trying to improve access for all our visitors. Below you will find information that we hope will help you have a fantastic experience but if we can help in anyway, please do get in touch.

Visitor information

The Discovery Centre and Tudor Grounds

Parking

Parking on site is free. There are 2 accessible allocated parking bays for disabled drivers. A level path on a slight incline will take you into the Discovery Centre.

Toilets

There is an accessible gender neutral toilet at the Discovery Centre.

Refreshments & Shelter

The Discovery Centre provides shelter and hot and cold drinks and snacks are available to buy. There are chairs and tables both inside and outside on a grassed area.

The Tudor Ruins

Access into the grounds is over grass from the Discovery Centre. The site is grassed with some areas of archology creating bumpy ground. There is a level change half way across the site accessed by a grass ramp. Entrance to the apothecary garden is through a 16th century door frame. The toilet is not accessible to wheelchair users. The entrance is through a narrow gap and there are ledges in the ground. A wheel chair is available to borrow on request for use within the grounds.

The Turret House

The Turret House is approximately 250 metres from the Discovery Centre. Access into the ground floor of the Turret House & exhibition is over a lipped threshold. Access onto the 1st and 2nd floors & further exhibitions is via a spiral stone staircase. We have an A3 booklet showcasing the upper floors. Vehicle access can be arranged, by prior notice, directly to the Turret House.

Manor Oaks House, The Rhubarb Shed Café and The Artists Studios

Parking

Parking at Manor Oaks is free. There is one disabled bay for parking next to the cafe and artists studios and two next to Manor Oaks House. The top car park is on level ground, the bottom car park provides pedestrian access via a slope or steps. Access from the car park to the café and studios is best gained by returning to the entrance gate of the car park and crossing the vehicle track. This route is surfaced and level and is shared with site vehicles. There is a paved entrance to Manor Oaks House with a slight ramp into the building from the backside, directly into the venue.

Toilets

Toilets Manor Oaks House
There is an accessible gender neutral toilet within Manor Oaks House.

Toilets at the Cafe and Artist Studios
There is a large accessible changing toilet with a hoist and adult sized bed, with a parking bay outside at the cafe. If you require access to this, please speak with a member of staff or the café team.

Routes across our site

We have a network of paths which are open to the public and link the different parts of the site. The distance from the Discovery Centre to Manor Oaks is approximately 800m. The paths vary in surface material and gradient. Some are steep. Please use the map to assess individual paths.

We recommend that, if possible, visitors using wheelchairs should use those with wide tyres as this makes access easier and smoother.
