The Green Estate’s achievements recognised by five awards in 2023
We’ve been absolutely delighted to have all our hard work and achievements recognised by five different awards this year. Below is a quick rundown of what awards The Green Estate has won in 2023…
The King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development
On 21 April, it was announced that The Green Estate had been awarded the inaugural and prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.
The King’s Award recognises outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of innovation, international trade, sustainable development and promoting opportunity through social mobility.
The Green Estate was one of only fifteen companies to receive the award in the Sustainable Development category and our CEO, Roz Davies, was invited to a reception in the State Rooms of Buckingham Palace on 27 June.
Roz and a number of other winners were selected to meet the King and exchange a few words. His Majesty asked what The Green Estate did and expressed hope that the award will help the organisation going forwards.
Roz said: ‘It was a privilege to represent our amazing team and tell the King about our work to grow beautiful, green and resilient urban landscapes and communities. I also mentioned our Pictorial Meadows seed and turf mixes which were planted in the Tower of London moat and Hampton Court as part of the Superbloom Platinum Jubilee celebrations last year. The King rightly talked about the value of these awards to organisations like ours. It is already helping us to improve our profile, our income and our impact.’
Green Flag Award
In July, Manor Fields Park won the Green Flag Award for the ninth year running! This award celebrates well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the UK. Well done to everyone in the Parks team and the volunteers for all their hard work!
Recycling Initiative of the Year
On 28 September, our Green Waste team won Recycling Initiative of the Year at the South Yorkshire Sustainability Awards. These awards celebrate the achievements of businesses, organisations and individuals that are leading the way in South Yorkshire to reduce their environmental impact.
Lian Noriega-Waite, our Senior Production Manager, said: ‘We were honoured to receive this award in recognition of the service and products we have developed. It is another step in our ambition for the organisation to become a centre of excellence for adaptation and resilience, and this service will become a showcase of a core element of growing engaging, adaptive and resilient urban places.’
Best Supplier
On 22 November, The Green Estate won Best Supplier at the Pro Landscaper Sustainability & Biodiversity Awards. These awards recognise and celebrate companies and projects in the landscaping industry that are contributing towards a more sustainable future for their respective sectors. More than forty companies and projects were shortlisted across twelve categories, showcasing the environmental innovation and initiatives on offer across the UK green workforce.
Helen McNally, our Head of Commercial Landscapes, said: ‘I feel very proud and privileged to have been able to collect the award on behalf of The Green Estate. It’s great that our dedicated team have been recognised for all the hard work they do to develop and deliver innovate, sustainable and biodiverse meadow products and soils. This is an amazing recognition, and along with other awards the wider team have received this year, it really feels like we are achieving our aim to deliver engaging, resilient and adaptive urban places.’
Opportunity Sheffield Recognition Award for Training & Development
On 29 November, Martin Collins, our Head of People Services, received the Opportunity Sheffield Recognition Award for Training & Development on behalf of The Green Estate. This award recognises training providers, participants and employers who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to training and developing staff.
Martin said: ‘With Opportunity Sheffield’s help this year, we have been able to train and set up a Mental Health First Aider Network and put some of our staff through ILM qualifications which has supported their career progression. I’m very proud of our achievements this year.’
CEO Roz Davies said: ‘This award is really special, and credit belongs to our Head of People Services, Martin Collins, who works hard to get our team the training and support they need. Thank you to Opportunity Sheffield for helping us to improve our skills and productivity.’
