A visit to Buckingham Palace to meet the King!
The Green Estate Community Interest Company is one of only 15 companies to receive the inaugural and prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development. See our previous news item for further details.
There were 148 winners of the King’s Award for Enterprise in all the categories and they were all invited to send one person to represent the businesses to a reception in the State Rooms of Buckingham Palace on Tuesday 27th June.
A number of the winners including The Green Estate CEO Roz Davies were selected to meet the King and receive a handshake and exchange a few words. His Majesty asked what The Green Estate did and expressed hope that the Award will help the organisation going forward.
It was also a great opportunity to mingle with some fantastic entrepreneurs from across the country and meet the Judges, the team in the Kings Award office and Lord-Lieutenants. There was a real sense of comradery and lots of networking across the business community in the room.
‘It was a privilege to represent our amazing team and tell the King about our work to grow beautiful, green and resilient urban landscapes and communities. I also mentioned our Pictorial Meadows seed and turf mixes which were planted in The Tower of London Moat and Hampton Court as part of the Superbloom Platinum Jubilee celebrations last year. The King rightly talked about the value of these awards to organisations like ours. It is already helping us to improve our profile, our income and our impact. I would really recommend other sustainable development and social enterprise businesses in South Yorkshire and beyond to put in an application.’ Roz Davies, CEO
We hope this award helps us to go from being a hidden gem to a jewel in the Sheffield and South Yorkshire crown!
Congratulations to all of the 2023 recipients of the Award and good luck to all the businesses currently working on their applications.
