Update on works at Manor Fields Park (17 Nov 2023)

Recent wet weather and storms Babet, Ciarán and Debi resulted in a short delay to the Sustainable Urban Drainage Scheme (SuDS) works, as the ground was too wet for the heavy machinery to be safely operated onsite.

With the forecast looking set to improve, we anticipate work to restart onsite in the next couple of weeks. 

The contractor (Britcon) will be reintroducing its site cabins to the area, and it is hoped – if the weather remains favourable – that work can recommence to create the basin (pond area). This will see heavy machinery back onsite – this will not impact access to and from the park.

The liner for the pond can be fitted and adjacent walkways upgraded if we have a dry spell once the basin is created. Any temporary closure of footpaths whilst work is being carried out will be communicated to park users.

Due to the recent poor weather, we are monitoring forecasts daily as inevitably any additional storms could impact on timescales. However, all partners are working hard to maintain progress where it is safe to do so. Any further delays will be communicated.

We thank everyone for their patience, and we continue to work hard to communicate the plans with park users and the local community. We apologise for the disruption to the park, but when the scheme is finished early next year, there will be a better environment for wildlife and park users to enjoy.

The project is being delivered by Sheffield Housing Company in partnership with Sheffield City Council’s Parks and Flood Management teams and The Green Estate Community Interest Company, which manages the park.

The scheme is designed to ease pressure on Sheffield’s watercourse and sewer network and will support the creation of 148 new homes in the Harborough Rise and Manor Park Avenue areas. It will also create a ‘wetland’ environment that will provide a haven for a diverse range of plants and animals, plus new walking trails for park visitors to explore.
