The Green Estate Wins Green Innovation Business of the Year
We are really delighted to share that The Green Estate CIC has won Green Innovation Business of the Year in the regional 2024 Chamber Business Awards!
It is particularly special as we were nominated by the Sheffield Chambers of Commerce team. It is a real honour to be championing Sheffield and South Yorkshire which is becoming a hive of activity in the green innovation and green economy space.
The Green Estate is going through a period of rapid growth and has become one of the largest social enterprises in South Yorkshire with 70 staff, 40 volunteers and a turnover of just over £3m.
Our flagship Pictorial Meadows mix was originally designed by Professor Nigel Dunnett and Professor James Hitchmough from the University of Sheffield to be resilient in difficult urban contexts and to bring long-lasting joy, colour and nourishment to people and wildlife. Pictorial Meadows can now be found across the country as far north as Aberdeenshire and as far south as Portsmouth!
We also turn green waste into peat-free compost and specialist substrates for Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems, and our team of expert landscapers and horticulturalists go out across Sheffield and the country designing, installing and maintaining iconic green and resilient urban spaces such as Grey to Green in Sheffield and the Mega Flora Project in North Lanarkshire.
We believe our approach to growing green and resilient urban places where people and nature can thrive, particularly in more disadvantaged areas, brings multiple environmental, social and economic value, and this award will really help us continue to grow our impact, income and influence!
A huge thank you to the team at Sheffield Chambers of Commerce and congratulations to all of the regional award winners across the country!
