Our Purpose
We are The Green Estate Community Interest Company. Our mission is to grow engaging, adaptive and resilient urban places in Sheffield, the UK and beyond.
We were originally set up in 2003 as a heritage and environmental regeneration project in the Manor area of Sheffield. The Green Estate team of staff, volunteers and partners have turned 42 hectares of derelict land and heritage buildings into a unique, beautiful, and sustainable landscape where people and nature can thrive together.
Visit The Green Estate
When you visit today, you can enjoy the Green Flag Award winning Manor Fields Park and the Scheduled Ancient Monument Sheffield Manor Lodge where Mary Queen of Scot was once imprisoned. You can also get married or host celebrations and corporate events in the beautiful Manor Oaks venue, and enjoy the culinary delights of The Rhubarb Shed Cafe. You can drop off green waste and we recycle it into peat free compost and specialist substrates soils. We also offer a range of support and a home for a collective of community enterprises who grow food and cut flowers, sew Tudor costumes, make furniture, jewellery, support young people to flourish and more.
Meadows and Resilience Landscaping Across the UK and EU
Through transforming our own place and working closely with Sheffield University and other landscaping industry partners, The Green Estate team have become nationally acclaimed experts in sustainable urban landscaping. Our projects have incorporated sustainable drainage systems, rain gardens, and green roofs. We have developed biodiverse and resilient urban Pictorial Meadow seed mixes and turf which are sold and displayed across the UK and into EU. Our services and products are designed to bring joy and nourishment to people, pollinators and the planet!
The King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development
We were in the first cohort of businesses to receive the prestigious Kings Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development approved personally by the King.
Looking Forward
Against the odds, we have grown from a seed of an idea to one of the largest social enterprises in South Yorkshire and we remain ambitious in our drive to grow our positive impact on our local communities and beyond through education, enterprise, and environmental activities.
As a committed member of the Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission, the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, and the Sheffield Parks and Green Open Spaces Forum we continue to seek to collaborate with like-minded partners to grow engaging, adaptive and resilient urban places.
