Owned by Sheffield City Council and managed by the social enterprise Green Estate, the park is destined to be developed further as a ‘Landscape Laboratory’ by the University of Sheffield’s Landscape Department. Manor Fields represents a ground-breaking new approach to managing and developing these vital green spaces, and in only 15 years the park was just a stretch of derelict land. It now represents one of the most innovative urban parks in the UK – recognised in this Green Flag award.

Sue France, CEO of Green Estate said: ” We couldn’t be more delighted to receive a Green Flag Award. The story behind Manor Fields Park though is very different to many traditional Green Flag winners. Just 15 years ago there was no park at all – just a ‘no-go’ wasteland. We wanted to do something very different which would also offer a blueprint for creating other much more sustainable urban parks in the future. From storm water management, innovative play areas, some beautiful nature-inspired planting schemes and a really brilliant set of partnerships – this park has it all!”
